Bose CineMate Series II Review

Bose CineMate Series II Home Theater Review

There are certain brand names that are associated with quality or making the best products in their fields. Want a quality TV? Give us a Sony any day. If the gophers want some chocolate, they prefer Nestle. Well, when it comes to “Quality” speakers, Bose is usually the first name to come to most people’s minds. Every time we get to check out a Bose Digital Home Theater we get happy, and while we may get a little “sticker shock” we are never disappointed.

Our Review

The gophers got excited to give these a try like they do anytime they see something that says Bose. Well, we’re pleased to say that nobody was disappointed as the Bose CineMate Series II system sounds great. Everything we ran through our setup sounded excellent, and on action movies/video games the highs were clear and the lows were deep. In other words, it sounds awesome. It’s very easy to setup and while it’s not a 5.1 system, it doesn’t cost as much as one, and you don’t have to deal with all the wiring. As with most Bose speakers, these are a bit expensive but put out a lot sound from a small, tidy package.

The Look

As you would expect from Bose, these speakers are sharp. The 2 array speakers and Acoustimass module all have a pure black finish and will look great sitting next to your TV or anywhere else in your home. Even the remote has a classy, minimalistic look to it with only 4 buttons and a streamlined appearance. The remote control is small though, and if you lose it you’re up the creek as that’s the only way to adjust the systems volume.

Setting up the Bose Cinemate II

This is one of the simplest systems to setup, especially when you consider the sound quality coming out of the speakers. All you need to do is figure out your speaker placement & hook up the interface module, and then you can sit back in a state of bliss while the Bose CineMate Series II sweet sounds surround you.

Sound Quality

Great, and we would expect nothing less from Bose. As we mentioned, everything our Gophers tested sounded outstanding and we had no issues with anything we heard. The bass did get a little out of hand during Jurassic Park, but that was remedied by adjusting the bass on the back of the Acoustimass module. That being said, we were lucky to have the gophers around to do our bidding… for 600 bucks we thought Bose could’ve added a Bass adjustment to the remote.

Should you buy it?

If you’ve got the cash to spare, yes you should. I don’t think we’ve ever seen a “cheap” Bose system and there’s a reason for that. They put out quality systems, and the Bose CineMate Series II system is no exception. It may not be a true 5.1 Home theater setup, but it’s cheaper than a lot of those and sounds great. If you can’t deal with wires, don’t have much space or patience to hook things up… you’ll definitely dig this setup. Unless you’re dead set on having a top of the line 5.1 system, we think you should definitely check this one out.

  • Ease of setup & use
  • No messy wiring
  • Sounds Excellent… it is a Bose after all

  • Small remote controls… don’t lose it!
  • A little sparse in the features department
