Altec Lansing 2.1 Computer Speakers

Altec Lansing speaker Review

When you first plug such sleak looking speakers, you’d expect the skies to part for a choir of angels travelling down from Heaven on giant eagles shooting lazer beams from their eyes.  Instead, you get noise coming out of cool looking tin can.

The Altec Lansing Octane 7 2.1-CH PC Multimedia speaker system is an all around mediocre product.  Worth the price?  Definitely.  When it comes to mid priced items, this puppy delivers.

Our gophers blasted tunes ranging from Lady Gaga to Jethro Tull for hours on end and every one of them came to the same conclusion : Where’s the Bass?

Our Review

A step above from built-in sound systems, Altec offers a high quality 2.1 speaker set in the $30 to $70 range.  With the set comes 2 speakers and a subwoofer built for use with desktop PCs or laptops.

The Look

Does it look like most other PC speakers?  Hell yeah.  Altec didn’t set out to re-invent the wheel on this model.  Does it look good?  Double hell yeah.  The glossy black finish on the 2 satellite units and the matte look n the subwoofer fits right into any geeks Feng Shui.  The controls, AUX input and orange LED power light can be found on the right speaker.  Unfortunately, Altec didn’t endow this set with a big speaker cable.  Even by gopher standards, 4′ isn’t much to work with.

Setup

Plug and play baby!  If you’re having trouble setting this up, go back to riding the short bus.

Sound Quality

The reason you’re reading this is to know if this baby sounds good or not.  The average consumer will be satisfied with the output.  The system works.  The details are ample and the basic sound is clean.  However, if you try to crank up the unit for party level sound, forget it!  Hello distortion and weak bass lines.
